This is how children of color are treated in schools, people, especially brown children. How will this child trust teachers actually care about her again? Huh? Tell me that.

The teacher tried to brush this shit off and say it was “just a joke.” Yeah… because humiliating a child in a classroom full of her peers is just fucking hilarious. I’m willing to put money on the fact that she’d never do this shit to a nice little white child.

Motherfucking Arizona.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that if she had turned her homework in, she wouldn’t have received this award.

Yeah, but if a student has trouble keeping with deadlines you should find out WHY they’re having trouble, and figure out how to help them. You don’t make an embarrassing and possibly scarring experience out of it.

Absolutely. The teacher, most likely, did not have any malicious intents for what she did, but she’s a teacher and should realize that if you single out a student for anything, they’re going to get made fun of and embarrassed by their classmates, because children are assholes.

The problem is people are getting upset about the wrong thing. People need to ask why is she not turning in homework. Does she need help? Is there a lot of students not turning in homework? Is this a larger inherent problem with the school, or maybe she has some kind of learning disability?

Instead we get ‘Racist teacher emotionally abuses small girl’. “Social Justice” is bullshit.

ignorant crackers talk again

go blow a lawnmower promptly, kthx

Shit like this really grinds my gears, if she had been white no one would have batted an eye lid!! i got a certificate for being the class ‘dunce’ in year 4 i was only 8 or 9 i didn’t care! i got an award and thats MUCH more offensive than ‘most excuses!’ JUST because she was ‘of color’ what the HELL has that got to do with ANYTHING!?

crackers like you really grind my gears and it’s pretty clear that you ARE a dunce AND a racist so why don’t you have a seat in the doggy corner while grown folk are talking, k booboo?

We all know that if the little girl was white this would have been national news. That’s all.

Normally I’m all over this kind of thing, but I’m taking a seat back on this one. I ain’t mad at homegirl (the teacher). And I’m not blaming this one on race either (I know; shocking), and for once I’m not saying that if the little girl had been white folks would be in an uproar. This really does happen daily to lots of kids. When I was in the 8th grade, 2 white boys in my class stopped doing their work. Our teachers didn’t give out awards, but they still found ways to embarrass the hell out of us for making poor marks. Our 8th grade teacher called their parents. One of the boys’ mom came up to school IMMEDIATELY, embarrassed him AGAIN by cussing him out in front of us (she was speaking Greek but we all knew what she was saying), then kissed him and went home. The other boy’s father came to class too. And stayed. When I stopped doing my homework in the 6th grade, my teacher asked me if everything was alright. Everything was alright, I was just being lazy, and after I told her that I got called on in class daily, along with the only other kid that made a D. Needless to say all 3 of us pulled our grades up ASAP.

So no. I’m not mad at this teacher. Should she maybe have called the little girl’s mom earlier to ask what was going on? Yes. Should she have called it the “Catastrophe Award?” No. That was fucked up. Being a Zeta, if I were her I’d have called it the “Excuses Award” (y’all blue and white know what I’m talking about) and I’ve have probably had her learn and recite Excuses to the class (again, blue and white, y’all know what I’m talking about).

Why didn’t her mother know she hadn’t been turning in assignments? When I was that age, my divorced South Carolinian mother of 2 worked 2 jobs and had a weekend side business and she STILL made sure my sister and I had our work done before we went to bed. She checked our bookbags every morning before school, and the one time I forgot a worksheet at my grandma’s house she beat my ass and THEN threatened to make me take a 0 (no joke y’all that was the worst whooping I ever got). She signed our agendas and journals every week and knew when it was report card day weeks in advance. Where were you, Mrs. Garcia, when your daughter fell behind? What the hell else were you doing that was more important?

My little cousin is about the same age as Cassandra, and he doesn’t turn in his assignments either. Know why? He can’t put his phone down long enough to get his homework out of his locker. He can’t stop playing Modern Warfare long enough to study for his tests. (I actually just handed him his ass on Facebook first for sassing me, then for using really poor grammar) While he’s not doing his work, his trifling ass momma and my trifling ass uncle are out in the world doing everything but making sure their son stays ahead (or at least afloat) in school. If that little boy goes to college I will pay his tuition myself out of gratitude to Sweet Minty Jesus and the Holy Ghost for a miracle because right now I honestly don’t see him making it that far.

I can’t cosign on this one, y’all.
